What is Grabo?

In short, the Grabo is a handheld, motorised suction lifter that is capable of lifting a wide range of smooth and porous materials, including wood, stone, tile, concrete, plasterboard, metal, glass and more. While this may not sound revolutionary, Grabo is actually the world’s first portable powered vacuum lifter! It gained this accolade by cleverly combining the portability of traditional suction cups with the strength of large commercial models for maximum safety and security when moving heavy materials weighing up to 170kg. That also means easier transportation and reduced costs, as you won’t need to hire in heavy duty lifting equipment.

Unlike standard non-motorised cups, the Grabo is also powerful enough to lift semi-porous materials due to its continual pumping action that maintains a reliable seal. This is key for tradesmen who work with porous and permeable materials that air can pass through.

Similarly, Grabo suction lifters can be used on wet or dusty surfaces, and those that aren’t perfectly flat. For example, riven paving slabs, textured tiles and aluminium chequer plate. Traditional slab suction lifters, on the other hand, can only to adhere to smooth surfaces.

How does the Grabo work?

The Grabo features a rechargeable, electric motor which is used in conjunction with a mouldable rubber seal to create a strong continuous vacuum between itself and any of the materials mentioned above. Even if the material is somewhat porous, the motor will still be able to pump out air faster than it can penetrate through in order to retain the suction needed to lift it. This is something that traditional suction cups just can’t do!

To use the Grabo, all you need to do is place it directly onto the surface, switch it on and when the optimum pressure is reached, the device will be securely adhered to the surface, ready for lifting. Then, once you’ve placed the item where you want it, simply press the red button on the top to release it from the Grabo’s grip and you’re done.

What’s the difference between the Grabo Plus and Pro?

While both models are cordless, portable and have a battery that lasts up to 900 cycles on just a two-hour charge, there are some key differences between the two designs.

Grabo Plus

Grabo Plus electric handheld suction lifter for building products

The Grabo Plus is the original, entry-level model, ideal for those new who are working on a tighter budget. It features a mechanical pressure gauge for checking the strength of the vacuum seal and it can be used to lift heavy, awkward items to speed up your projects considerably.

Grabo Plus is manually operated, so you switch it on, monitor the pressure gauge as it rises and then switch it off once it has reached the level required for the item you’re lifting. If you feel the grip start to loosen, you can then switch it back on until the seal has been renewed.

Grabo Pro

Grabo Pro digital electric handheld suction lifter system for builders and landscapers

The Grabo Pro is designed for the same purpose, but it has been upgraded to include a digital display and a slimmer handle for improved comfort. Though the main difference – and the element that makes the Pro the premium model - is its smart pressure sensor.

With the Grabo Pro, the machine does all the hard work for you. This includes selecting the right amount of pressure for the material being lifted and automatically switching itself off to conserve battery power once a secure seal has been achieved. Similarly, if the pressure starts to fall, the sensor will kick in and switch the device back on to boost the pressure. That way, you’re less likely to drop or damage the expensive building materials you’re carrying.

What is Grabo useful for?

As we’ve already mentioned, handheld Grabo vacuum lifters have a host of different uses which either model is suitable for. But if you’re still in doubt about how useful they might be for you and your team, here’s a quick look at some of their most popular applications.

For landscapers

Lifting and moving:

  • Paving slabs
  • Wooden sleepers
  • Timber decking
  • Fence panels
  • Natural stone products

For builders/ fitters

Lifting and moving:

  • Outdoor paving
  • Flooring tiles
  • Timber sheet materials
  • Doors and textured glazing
  • Countertops

Not only will Grabo make lifting these items faster, it also allows for better manual handling. This will help avoid accidental injuries, as you’ll be able to carry heavy materials in a much more natural way and without over-stretching- especially with two devices on large products.
